A.C.T. Speedtraps

General information for 1997 Speed is the target throughout the ACT and a special unit set up. Mobile radar commonly used, slant radar on occasion. Laser used throughout ACT, can be hand held but commonly on a tripod beside the road. Often used from a Tarago van, parks with the tripod mounted laser at the back. Speed cameras not use in ACT and no plans for them at this stage (as of Jan 97). School zones (40km/h, 8am -4pm) often targeted, especially first week back after holidays.

Streeton Dr between Fremantle Dr and Bangalay Cres (Suburbs: Rivett/Stirling)
Police position themselves in the car park for the netball courts.

Drakeford Dr driving north towards intersection next to Kambah Village (someone else may be able to tell you what the intersection is!) (Surburb: Kambah)
Police slightly concealed by bush on left hand side near Soccer oval.

Bowen Drive, just after the Right hand side merging ramp where the three lanes form into two. Eastbound.

Limestone Avenue, just before the War Memorial, Northbound. Again, where two lanes merge into one.

If you're ever in Canberra and want to visit the Australian War Memorial, you'll probably use Limestone Avenue. The speed limit on it is only 60 km/h. But it's a broad, straight, tree-lined dual carriageway that goes in a straight line downhill, so there is a tendency to speed up.
As a result, there is often a radar trap at the end of Limestone Avenue, just before you curve around to the front of the Australian War Memorial.
So if you can see the War Memorial off to one side through some trees, slow down!

Federal highway, Goulburn to Canberra:.
About 5km south of Wollogorang Creek in an RTA gravel stockpile in the median.
Adjacent to the Collector turnoff, on the left hand side on a left hand bend (southbound).
All along Lake George, especially the 80 and 90km/h limits at the roadworks.

In the last couple of months the defence academy has been getting cops to sit at general bridges grave on general bridges drive, which is on the road leading to mt pleasant, and the area is a 40 zone. Cadets especially should watch out, as the CSM has been regularly seen playing cricket at the nets next to the ISC and CAMU-D, and he'll nab you as well.

Suburb: Waramanga

Time: 8-8.30am weekdays
Who: Police bike with laser speed detector.
I've seen him regularly over the last 3 weeks trying to get people on their way to work.
