West Pennant Hills:
On Castle Hill Rd between Thompson's Corner and Rogan's
Hill, opposite Koala Park
Willam Street (Sydney):
Near the Kings cross Bypass Tunnel in both directions.
Towards Kings Cross, they usually plant a radar behind the pylon of the
overpass and pull you over near the driveway to the BMW showroom.
Away from the Cross, outside the old Rushcutter's Bay Bowling alley, one
or
two cars needing to fill their quota (did I say that?) will get cars
who
for some reason get up to quite large speeds in the tunnel and then
fly
down the hill right into the path of their
guns.
F3 Freeway 9-9-97:
The Somersby Interchange trap on the northbound F3 is sometimes changed
from the left to the right - at the end of the 1km straight, after it
merges from 3 lanes to 2, they sit on the RIGHT hand side and pick off
everyone in the outside lane (guess who was ticketed for avoiding an
accident by exceeding the speed limit by 15-20k!)
The Ghost is Back(Sydney):
A black XR8 cruises rather quickly around the Hills District, to the
northwest of Sydney. It's called "The Ghost" because you won't see it
until it has pulled out of nowhere and is on your tail scanning you.
It can be seen from Parramatta to Hornsby to Kellyville to Cherrybrook. It
loves the back roads around Dural and Castle Hill. No tinting, nothing
special, just a black *very quick* XR8 looking to haunt you.
Actually the local papers have articles about it when it's around.
Davies Road, Padstow 1-10-97:
Every week there is a speed trap out side the head office of obrien
glass industrys on davies road,
padstow... they hide in the driveway of obriens and get heaps of people
traveling along davies road.
Cremorne and Lane Cove Speedtraps 24-9-97:
Cremorne Point, Milson Rd. (NSW)
Motorcycle Cop catches people doing 50+km/h down Milson Rd. after 3pm
about once a week if it's not raining etc..
Cremorne, Ernest Street...
Motorcycle cop again...sits hiding at the intersection outside the Big
Bear Shopping Center...People coming off the harbour bridge pr north
sydney beware!! Nice big downhill that they get you on...
Lane Cove, River Rd.
XR8's Hanging around in the dark areas 'round the golf course (at
Northwood) in the EARLY hours of the morning (between 4:30 am to 6:00am)
North Sydney, Falcon St.
Right outside the RTA at the main intersection of Miller ST. and Falcon
St a radar trap sits and waits for people coming from cremorne/mosman
going to North Sydney...Usually during off peak times...He's ALWAYS
there...
Sydney-Newcastle Freeway:
Going north along freeway just north of Somersby Interchange (ie not the
Gosford Interchange at Somersby) watch out for unseen radar location
behind rockwall. If you're speeding and you see this mobile unit on your
left it's already too late.
All of Newcastle:
City of 300,000 or so
Heaps of traffic police in a relatively small area.
Hume Highway, Sydney to Goulburn:
About 3km north of Mittagong, in the median at the south end of a rock
cutting, set up either way (sometimes two cars together, one for each
direction). Known to the truckies on CB as "Skyline", as a little
further south you get to the top of a rise with a view back to the
skyline of Sydney.
About 5k south of Marulan, on a right hand curve (southbound) in the
median. Angled worn patch where they park, read in either direction.
On the Goulburn bypass, about 2km from northern end near the top of the
hill. In the median. Also about 1km further along in the median under the
overbridge.
Federal highway, Goulburn to Canberra:.
About 5km south of Wollogorang Creek in an RTA gravel stockpile in the
median.
Adjacent to the Collector turnoff, on the left hand side on a left hand
bend (southbound).
All along Lake George, especially the 80 and 90km/h limits at the
roadworks.
Pacific Highway:
Dec 96. Between Bulladelah and Taree, generally a high level of
enforcement.
Particularly 4km north of Bulladelah, a speed camera in a winding
section of 80km limit, known to the truckies as "set of stairs". Seen
twice in 4 days, aiming to catch northbound traffic as it goes past.
Wagga Wagga 27-9-97:
Holden SS and Ford XR6 vehicles mobile radar between baylis Street and the
Hume Highway turnoff entry.
Speedtraps common in 50 km/h driving zones.
QUEANBEYAN:
On Yass road near Canberra border from Bungendore Rd
roundabout to Railroad trestle at border. They'll often position selves
at Airport Int'l Motel and chase you over border and stop you after RR
overpass. If given a NSW ticket in ACT it can be fought in court
successfuly, for altho deputised as ACT Officers for criminal cases,
they have no powers in non crim cases thus tix are void unless brought
to ACT courts, I'm told.
