Vehicles used by the Victorian Police Force TOG

Vehicles used by the Victorian Police Force TOG Cars used as speed camera cars have been Toyota Camrys (Previous model), Holden Commodores, Ford Falcons (Previous model), and Mitsubishi Magnas. Note that they do change around the cars from time to time because motorists do learn what car they use.

Marked TOG cars currently VR Holden Commodore V8’s, and just being introduced EF Ford Falcon Straight 6’s (don’t know if they are getting the 8’s). These cars are different from normal patrol cars not just in the engine department, almost all TOG cars have a wide “American” style lightbar, with the LED message bar on the back, and with some city and all country TOG car, three aerials mounted with the lightbar. These are ment to be SS spec cars.

The backbone of the TOG’s unmarked car pool are Holden Commodores, these being SS V8 type spec. cars. These can be spotted by a number of ways, first is the red and blue lights which are situated in the front on either the passengers sun visor, or at the corners of each end of the dash. The rear set of lights being on the parcel shelf, boxes about 5cms by 20cms. Next is wheels, older cars have plain steel wheels, while newer cars I have seen had optional GMH 5 spoke alloys. SS bucket seats are usually included. Ariels are another give away, usually 2 mobile phone type ariels on the rear window, or a large ariel attached to either the boot or boot gutter, in addition to a mobile phone type ariel. Stock looking SS Commodores are also used in addition to “plain Commodore”, such as one in Shepparton, complete with red pinstripe, SS logos, and 5 spoke SS alloys. Lastly, point is two males (nearly always) sitting in these cars, driving either slower or faster than the traffic.

Recent additions to the car pool has been the Ford Falcon XR6, (and the XR8?), the police also realising these cars are cheap, reasonably quick, and Australian made. Mitsubishi dealer have told me a few Mitsubishi Lancer GSR turbo 4 wheel drive sedans (0-100kph 7.53 sec., 0-400m 15.41 sec.) have been sold to a few country TOG units, but these reports have not been confirmed.
Motorcycles added when information comes to hand.
