Laser

On the 20th of Novermber 1996, the Victorian Police Force introduced 60 Laser speed guns claimed to combat the road toll and against speeders. The unit used is the Kustom ProLaser. Laser uses a t hin infra-red beam (about 3 feet in diameter at 1000 feet, compared to radar’s 250 foot beam width at the same distance) which can pick out individual cars out of the traffic. Against an average car, the range of laser is about 400m. Laser is in use in Western Australia where they use the LTI 20-20, and in the ACT.
